As everyone knows by now, I love winter and especially snow. This season got off to a lackluster beginning, with mid 60s on New Years Day. It didn't snow until the third week of January and that was a disappointing 6" (10-14" predicted!). The first three weeks of February were just awful for snow lovers, but things got a bit more exciting by the end of the month. My first ride on the sled didn't occur until March 4, but the trails were excellent and the weather was gorgeous! Brian and I managed to complete a 150 mile loop on Friday March 4. Starting in Sabinsville, we crossed Rt. 6 and cruised on great trails down to Slate Run, then hit the Black Forest Inn for lunch. Snow was plentiful on top of the mountains with 12-16" on the ground. Next stop Germania for fuel, then on to Short Run, which was the worst section of trail imaginable - mud and complete absence of snow in spots. We rode out toward Potato City, climbing the Cherry Springs pipeline just for fun. We crossed Rt. 6 and made our way to Bailey Hill Lodge for some cold refreshment before returning to the Druck Lodge. Saturday was just as fun, and the weather was even more gorgeous. We completed a 100 mile loop and found some new trails.
