| After a long wait, I finally got to ride my new sled!
Our plans to go to Michigan were scrapped due to lack of snow so we tagged
along with Bill Sowers, Ron Wise, Russ & Bob Palmer, and others for a
week of incredible snowmobiling in the Gaspe peninsula of Quebec.
There were 13 of us in all, including my dad. The temperature was
below zero when we arrived in Riviere-du-Loup on 26 Jan 07 and didn't get
out of the single digits most of the week! We completed a 1078 mile
loop through the province and were treated to well groomed trails, lots of
snow, and spectacular views of the St. Lawrence. Members of the
group took turns driving a support vehicle from hotel to hotel, which
meant we didn't have to saddle bag a week's worth of clothes and 2-cyle
oil. Starting at Riviere-du-Loup on Sunday morning, we rode 194
miles to Matane. Day two was quite a hike at 221 miles. |
We rode through some pretty impressive
mountains and arrived well after sunset in Petite-Vallee. Tuesday
morning was brutal with 0 degrees and a 35 mph wind! The next stop
was Perce, 151 miles away. On Wednesday we had a smooth, easy 154
mile ride to New Richmond. Thursday was the coldest day, as it was
-20 degrees F when we woke up! We had excellent riding and the 168
miles to Amqui went by quickly. Finally it was time to complete our
ride back to the Hotel Universel. Other than a few bumpy sections
and a considerable lack of snow near Riviere-du-Loup, the 190 mile trip
went well. Including our first day of local riding, the total miles
for the week came in at just over 1200. Despite the cold, we had
sunny skies every day. Below are just a few of the photos I
took.
