5/17/09 - Bailey is doing absolutely fine with no ill effects from his concussion. He is looking forward to spending time on his Grandpa's farm this summer. 1/30/09 - This past week Bailey had another CT scan and follow-up visits with the trauma surgeon and the neurosurgeon. His brain is healing nicely and he went back to school Thursday. We do not expect any further complications, provided Bailey does not have another concussion within the next twelve months. The doctors stressed how dangerous a second concussion could be and Jo is more paranoid than ever. It doesn't help that we have so much ice everywhere right now! We would like to thank everyone for the cards, phone calls, and emails. They were all very much appreciated. 1/20/09 - Bailey is doing great. He no longer has a headache and he looks and feels fine. Jo insists on strict adherence to the doctor's orders - (barely allowing him to leave the house, and no car rides) so he is really bored. A very special thanks to Beth and Brian for loaning their Xbox to us! That has been a big hit. I will give another update after Bailey's doctor appt. on 1/27/09. 1/13/09 - Bailey sustained a severe concussion on Saturday night (January 10, 2009) after slipping on an icy sidewalk and hitting the back of his head on a concrete step. We took him to the hospital and they immediately ordered a CT scan. He later began vomiting and became non-responsive. Jo and I were pretty panicked by this time as we couldn't help noticing the concern on the doctor's face. They sent him to the trauma ICU to keep a close eye on the situation, then admitted him to the pediatric unit after a second CT scan showed signs of improvement. He spent another night in the hospital and was released on Monday afternoon. Due to the severity of his injury (bleeding and swelling of the brain), he must stay home from school for at least 2 weeks and the doctor doesn't even want him leaving the house. Another head trauma during the early recovery period could be extremely dangerous, so he will not be allowed to take P.E. for the rest of the school year and they don't want him participating in any contact sports for a year! Bailey seems to be doing great. He is pretty bummed about not being able to wrestle this year and he is upset about gym class. But aside from a chronic headache (which is controlled with Tylenol), he appears totally normal. We are so relieved and thankful that the outcome was okay, however Jo is absolutely paranoid about him getting hurt again in some freak accident. He will be getting another CT scan on 1/26/09 and has a doctor appointment with the neurosurgeon the following day. I will keep this page updated with any new information. Thanks to everyone for the calls, emails, and visits. They are all very much appreciated. If anyone has an Xbox 360 that he can borrow to help with his boredom, please let me know!
